Since my devotionals this year don’t have one for today, I decided to write my own… for you!
February 29th, 2020 Devotional: What Are You Seeking This Day?!
“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” -Luke 9:23
Ah, the sun is coming up over the horizon with the rays shining through the glass beaming down your face. Your alarm goes off so you hop, skip and jump out of bed roaring to conquer the world, right?! Errr, probably not so much. But you do eventually have to get up, get ready, and head out to whatever it is you’re going to do. But do you ever stop to think of the most important decision you have to make once you wake up? You really only have two choices: 1. Follow the things of this world; or 2. Follow Jesus. From the moment you wake up, every day, that will be the most important decision of your life and eternity. The world is saying, “Follow me! I’ll make your flesh feel oh-so good! You deserve all that fancy-schmancy stuff. Ah, come on, gratify your flesh. You only live once!” But Jesus is saying, “Follow me! Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Jesus isn’t saying this life will be smooth sailing, but it will be easier than anything the world has to offer.
Remember, Jesus also tells us to, “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness…” If every morning you pick up your cross to follow Jesus and seek God’s kingdom first, he’ll make sure every need is met and he’ll even give you eternal life! But it’s a choice YOU have to make every single day.
Think About It: What are the decisions you’re making every morning? What’s their eternal impact? Are they helping to advance the kingdom of God or your position in the world?
My Prayer For You: Father, Almighty God, you know our every thought, our every action, and you know our hearts. Father, search our hearts and help us turn from any offensive way in us. I ask that you fill us with your Spirit every morning so we may consciously choose to deny our flesh and to pick up our cross and follow Jesus. Make us thirsty to seek your kingdom all the days of our lives. In Jesus’ wonderful, powerful name I pray. Amen.
